According to Ayurveda, this disease is caused due to the agni Mandya (weak digestive fire) that leads to formation and accumulation of ama in the abdomen further which gets accumulated in the channels and tissues of the body, that causes pain as well as swelling in the abdomen.

Abdominal migraine is not a type of headache but may be similar to migraine headache. This condition is characterized by intense episodes of abdominal pain (along with cyclical vomiting and migraine limb pain) that lasts for two or more hours followed by long periods without any symptoms. During the attack, the pain might be so severe that he or she would scream because of pain. It usually starts in childhood but may occur in adults and most commonly patient presents with a family history of migraine.

What are the Causes of Abdominal Migraine?

Although the exact cause is not known. Many researchers stated that this problem arises from a brain-gut pathway. Certain causes are stress or excitement that might trigger episodes of abdominal migraine.

This condition is less common than head migraine and affects about 4 percent of school-aged children. It usually starts at the age of 7 and triggers at the age of 9 to 11. Children who have abdominal migraine typically get head migraine when they get older.
